The CMS Girls’ Old Students Association Class of ‘85 has held its Scholarship and Awards Ceremony to celebrate the perseverance, dedication, and pursuit of knowledge of its students. The ceremony took place at the school premises Akoka, and was attended by the principal of CMS Girls Senior Grammar School, vice principal, members of staff, parents of awardees, distinguished guests, members of Class of ‘85, as well as the scholarship and awards recipients.
In her keynote address, Chairman of the Scholarship and Award Committee, Princess ‘Dayo Odukoya, said that the objective of the scholarships was far beyond the mere recognition of academic excellence. “It is about fostering a culture of commitment to education, igniting a flame of passion for learning that will continue to burn brightly in the hearts of our recipients for years to come,” she said.
Odukoya also said that the scholarships were about leveling the playing field and offering support to those who might not have had the same privileges, but possess an equal amount of ambition and potential. “We firmly believe that education is the cornerstone of progress and empowerment. It transcends boundaries, unlocks potential, and empowers individuals to shape a brighter future, not just for themselves, but also for their communities and the world at large.
Today, as we award these scholarships, Bursary and prize giving, we are not just merely granting financial aid, we are investing in a better tomorrow and making dreams come true”, she added.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the President of Class of ’85, Prof. Risi Dauda, said the seed of greatness sown by the group in the lives of current students of the school would be greater and better, one worth remembering in years to come, and charged the students to ensure that the sacrifices made by their parents were not in vain.
In her speech, the special guest of honour and former student of the school, Mrs. Folashade Kadiri, congratulated the recipients of the scholarship and bursary awards, charging them to take their studies seriously, to stand out wherever they might find themselves and be good ambassadors of the school. She eulogised parents for investing in the education of their children, which she said was a step in the right direction.
Expressing her gratitude, the Principal of CMS Girls Senior Grammar School, (name), thanked the Class of ‘85 for their continued support and commitment to giving back to the school and urged them to do more.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of cheques to deserving students in the various categories of the awards. About 20 students benefitted in all.
