Worried by the incessant attacks on school children and all forms of social vices amongst students, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has organized a safety programme for school children, under the “safe school initiative,” of the Corps in Lagos state.
The initiative which was organized, yesterday, Thursday, 23rd March, 2023, at Gulf Flower Schools located, in Oworonshoki, by the NSCDC, Lagos state Command in partnership with a private security organization, known as Safety Signature was aimed at educating school children on how to overcome any security challenge they may encounter.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos state Command, Commandant of Corps Usman Alfadarai, fdc, mnim, mpa, fisn, who was represented by Deputy Superintendent of Corps Oluwaseun Abolurin, the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer , Lagos State Command, maintained that the initiative which was kicked off in Gulf flower school is in line with the vision of the Commandant General of the corps, CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, dfisn, OFR, to safeguard all school environments.
CC Alfadarai added that the sensitization programme would be taken to other schools in the state in a bid to make Lagos state as safe as possible.
Similarly, the Deputy Superintendent of Corps Ada Agada , Head of Special Female Squad Unit , Lagos Command, while addressing the students stretched the relevance of the initiative, which was set up to help students curb, the effect of social vices such as sexual harassment, bullying, cultism etc..
On her own part, the Managing Director, Safety Signature, Dr Cynthia Greg advised students to always shun sexual harassment and other social vices.
She also called on victims of such unfortunate incidens to speak out, adding that her organization will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
Some students who spoke with newsmen at the backdrop of the Corps’ event, Adeboyejo and Praise commended the NSCDC and Safety Signature for bringing such programme to their school.
They also called on their fellow students to make good use of what they learnt during the programme and also face their studies as they are now, in examination period.
Finally, the students were also allowed to ask budging questions to them in relations to their varying experiences with social vices amongst their mates in school. Adequate answers and advices were given to them, with their minds being refocused on their academic and practical works, good character and principles of life to ensure their optimal success in life.
